Chenille dress

nigella - wip 2, originally uploaded by pacific_rin.

I've finished knitting the dress - might add some beading or trims. The chenille is very soft and though it looks a little messy, I'm pretty pleased with it overall.

Experimenting

Making a dress from fine cotton chenille and making the pattern up as I go along.
I searched a lot of old doll patterns but didn't find anything suitable, most dresses were either lacey knits for baby dolls or double knits. I wanted a "home made" looking type of frock.

I've forgotten how difficult it is to keep chenille looking even, the stitches are very messy. Oh well, all adds to the home-made look that I want.

Mohair!

This ruby wine mohair sweater was knitted ByGill and fits Nigella wonderfully.

It was made from a Scotty Maloney pattern - Mid Century Mohair.

I also knitted this sweater a long time ago but it came out huge!

This is Claire, my old CED modelling it. (I made the capris too).

Even Seina could wear it. (Bad photo, poor Seina!)

Eventually I chopped the sleeves off and made them into arm-warmers for Seina. (I also made the bag).

I keep thinking about trying it again but I don't really like knitting with thin mohair. Though I love the effect. Hmmmmmmmm........

" Well, Ain't You Somethin' "

A quick snap of Nigella asleep. This yellow beret is from an Ann Estelle outfit from 2002 called "Well, Ain't You Somethin' " and it certainly is! This little outfit consisting of a pale yellow knitted jumper and matching beret with embroidered flowers plus red pleated skirt has been so versatile and fitted many dolls in different sizes.

(Below) The jumper on a Petite Ai, size around 10" and the set on a Blue Fairy Xiao, size 43cm.

(left) Scottie (PetiteAi) holds it up against her and (right) Opal (Sharmin) knows the beret is too big for her.

(above) The full set on Milly, a 16" fashion doll and (below) the beret and jumper on Rin, a 53cm ball jointed doll from Volks. The jumper is very stretchy!

2002 Toy Fair - the outfit on the doll it was designed for!

Black and gingham.

There's something very pleasing and classic about black cabled or ribbed jumpers with gingham capris or skirts. This is an up-to date look with a long sweater over gingham cut-offs and black & white boots. Not forgetting the little black and white spotty dalmatian brooch.

These next two are 50's style. The second one is very Audrey Hepburn.

Happy Hallowe'en!

This is Nigella and her pumpkin bear.

The sleeves are half sleeves - cut from a machine knit jumper as the the coat sleeves were too narrow to pull over the whole sweater. So I made long armwarmers to push under the coat.

The coat and matching hat are beautiful. They are a very soft velvet and were made by Magalie Dawson. The colour is gorgeous too.
